La Côte d’Or Café has a new owner! Chef Jacques Imperato, previous owner of Mediterranee Restaurants in Arlington and Great Falls, took over La Côte d’Or in early February of 2016, and is very excited to be back in the area again. In 1977, after attending 2 years of culinary school in Nice, France, Chef Jacques worked in several fine dining restaurants in Nice, St Paul de Vence and Eze Village. He has worked with some of the most prestigious chefs known in the Côte d’Azur area today. After 5 years Jacques moved to the United States, where he worked at Maison Blanche in Washington DC, one of the most popular French restaurants at that time. In 1983 Jacques had his first experience as a restaurant owner with Chalet de la Paix at Lee Heights shopping center in Arlington. Unfortunately, this successful restaurant lost its lease and had to close in 1987. During the following years, Jacques worked as Chef in different places around the DC area, one of these being Tiberio on K Street, a widely popular and well-known Italian restaurant. In 1992 Jacques moved to India where he stayed for 3 years. During this time he ran a very successful catering business and acted as Consultant for the Hyatt Regency Hotel restaurants in New Delhi. Jacques moved back to DC in 1995, where he worked as Chef at Le Lavandou, a small, very busy French restaurant on Connecticut Avenue. In mid-1996 Jacques open Mediterranee Restaurant on Lee Hwy in Cherrydale, Arlington. This successful neighborhood bistro was destroyed in a fire on Thanksgiving Day in2003. After several futile attempts to stay in the same location, Jacques reopened Mediterranee in Great Falls in January 2005. He stayed there until December of 2012, when he sold it. During the time from early 2003 till February 2016, Jacques has also been busy with Consulting, at such places as Cassatt’s Cafe and Bistro 360 in Arlington, Grape and Bean in Alexandria and the Wine House in Fairfax city. Now, Jacques is very happy to welcome previous customers as well as new customers of La Côte d’Or, We are moving forward and invite food and wine lover’s to experience great French food and wines from the famous “La Côte d’Or” region in Burgundy.
